Pumpkin Chili

 

Okay, so Pumpkin Chili. Its a thing, and its delicious. Fall is right around the corner for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere. And with fall comes a lot of fantastic things. Including Pumpkin. What people sometimes fail to realise, there is so much more to Pumpkin than a latte from Starbucks. Without further ado, here is how you make Pumpkin Chili. Oh. It has beans in it. Sorry. Except not. Because its delicious.

This recipe is for a pretty large stock pot worth, but can be adjusted pretty easily.

Oma’s spicemix

There are a lot of rumors going around about Dutch food, and for the most part, the rumors are true. The Dutch don’t have a ‘cuisine’ like the French or Italian do, our dinners look bland and mushy, we don’t care for aesthetic. All. True. We’re frankly much better at making sweet snacks (delicious stroopwafels!) than we are at making actual meals. There is one rumor in particular that gets a giggle out of me every time. It mostly comes from the mouths of Surinamese, Turkish or Moroccan people who have ever had the misfortune of eating a bland ‘stamppot’. Dutch people, specifically Dutch white people, are really bad at spicing their food. It’s true! Especially the older generation, who grew up with salt and pepper being pretty much the only spice, cannot be bothered to expand their horizons when it comes to spice.
